Industrial bag sewing thread is used to close various types of bags: multi-walled paper, woven, laminated woven polypropylene, jute, polyester, flat & gusseted. The type of bag, bagging conditions and the product being bagged are just some of the considerations that will determine the best kind of thread to be used.
Industrial bag sewing thread is sold by weigh and is available in: 8 oz., 2.5 lb., 5 lb. and 20 lb. cones. The 8 oz. cones are generally used on portable, hand held bag sewers (i.e. the Fischbein Models D, E & F, the Newlong Model NP-7A and the Union Special Model 2200). The 2.5 lb. cones are used in a unique towel application. The 5 lb. and 20 lb. cones are used on mounted portables or fixed sewing heads (i.e. the Fischbein Models 100, 101, 200 & 201 and the Union Special Models 80800 & BC200).
The amount of thread on the cone varies depending on several factors (e.g. material and ply). The following chart lists approximate yards of #12/5 polyester thread and number of 18” bags that can be sewn on with cone.
